I was born in London, England in 1934.

In 1962 I went to Cambridge University, becoming only the 8th person to study for a PHD without previously receiving a bachelor degreee.

As a child I was given a lifelike chimpanzee doll by my father. I named it Jubilee.

My studies introduced me to characters such as David Greybeard, Goliath, Flo, Gigi and Frodo.

I always had a passion for the animals of Africa and in 1957 I went to live on a farm in Kenya.

I studied the social behavior of chimpanzees in Tanzania over a 45 year period.
